Guruvayur
Guruvayur is famous for its Krishna temple .
Here Guruvayurappan ( Lord vishnu avatar as Krishna) is worshipped .
We went for evening darshan , as we reached late afternoon. Temple was beautiful with lamps lit all around. Inside the temple premises , we got to experience procession of diety on elephant along with chants of hare Krishna
Wedding and annaprasana ceremonies are a common sight here .
Just outside the temple , cultural programs are performed .
Nei payasam, powdered sugar , butter , plantains are some of the prasadam you can buy over the counter. Unniappams are offered to God during night puja and you have to pre-book it. I heard appams at temple are very yummy .
Next day , we visited few temples and tourist spots .
Locals say that your visit to Guruvayur is incomplete without visiting Mammiyur Shiva temple.
Sree Parathasarthy temple ,walkable distance from Guruvayur temple is another holy tourist place . The temple is in the form of chariot ,dedicated to lord Krishna, the Charioteer who accompanied Arjuna in the battlefield of Mahabharata.
Elephant Camp Sanctuary(Punnathur Kota): located around 3 kms from temple . It houses a number of elephants and was a treat to watch them . Kids enjoyed seeing them being fed and play around with water.
We headed back to Thrissur .
Vadakkunnathan Temple:
It is an ancient Shiva temple . Known for kerala architectural style . It is also recommended for UNESCO world heritage site and declared as National Monument by India .
It was a very huge and calm temple . We spent sometime here , waiting for our return bus . Here, abhishekam of linga is done with ghee and surprisingly there are no ants or foul smell coming of ghee which is 300 years old .
I would like to share one incident here , I was longing to taste the uniappams made in temples here but unfortunately couldn't. Since you have to pre-book or go very early in the morning and stand in the queue .
My elder son and husband went to cloak room in the temple to collect our bag , suddenly one pujari saw my elder son jumping around and called him and gave him three unniappams .😀
You ask and Krishna fulfills 🙏
